GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF NETLOGO SOFTWARE PLATFORM

NetLogo is a software platform designed by Uri Wilensky it in the year 1999 (Wilensky, 1999). NetLogo is in a process of development and modernization in the frame of Center for Connected Learning and Computer-Based Modeling - Northwestern University, Illinois, USA. NetLogo is written in Java language and can be run on all major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux etc.). In addition, individual models can be run as Java applets inside web pages. NetLogo is freeware and can be downloaded from the next web address: http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/. For the moment there are available the next versions of NetLogo: NetLogo4.1beta1, NetLogo4.0.4, NetLogo3DPreview5, NetLogo 3.1.5, NetLogo 3.0.2, NetLogo2.1, NetLogo2.0.2, and NetLogo1.3.1 – see (Fig. 1). From this list, I selected NetLogo 4.0.5 and I used this version for implementing the model described in Chapter 2 of this eBook.
